Beyond Day Jobs: Alternative Economies for Artists
What do artists need? Is having a day job enough for artists to survive and make their work? What are other ways artists can be supported financially outside of the competitive market and grant cycle? This program will consider different models of supporting artists, covering examples such as redistribution through mutual aid, artist guaranteed income, and universal basic income.
Join us for this engaging conversation with artist and organizer Tatiana Vahan, poet and writer Kevin Dublin, Naja Gordon from Creatives Rebuild New York, and Marie-Laure Mulayi, visiting researcher in the Basic Income Lab at the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality.
Presented in conjunction with the Day Jobs exhibition, on view at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University from March 6 through July 21, 2024.
Co-sponsored by Cantor Arts Center, Stanford Basic Income Lab, and Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality
