United Way Bay Area held a convening on Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI) programs in the San Francisco Bay Area on May 13, 2026 in Oakland, California. Stanford Basic Income Lab was invited to introduce the event. Representing the Lab, Sara Kimberlin, Executive Director of the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality, presented an overview of basic income concepts and a snapshot of basic income programs in the San Francisco Bay Area, drawing on the Lab’s Global Experiments Map.
